Accused Check Fraudster Escapes Police Custody Outside Riverhead Walmart
An alleged check fraudster managed to slip away from police custody after being busted at a Long Island Walmart store. Suffolk County Police were called to the Riverhead Walmart, located on Old Country Road, at around 9 p.m. Friday, May 10 for a man who was reportedly trying to cash a US Department of Treasury check with a fraudulent passport ID card. A 22-year-old was killed in a two-vehicle crash on a busy Long Island roadway. The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 13 in Commack. Suffolk County Police said a 51-year-old Hauppauge woman was driving a 2020 Volkswagen westbound on Jericho Turnpike when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot at 6070 Jericho Turnpike and collided with a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle. Police announced that three people were arrested after they were allegedly seen fleeing from the scene of a shooting. It happened on Sunday, May 12 in Freeport, according to Nassau County Police.
