New 5K Record Set At South Salem Memorial Day Run

LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- Despite dire predictions of rain on Memorial Day, the clouds broke in time to give runners in South Salem a great day for their annual race, organizers say.

It turned out to be a beautiful day Monday for a run at South Salem's annual 10K/5K race.

These were the top winners:

  • David Gordon of Cross River swept the 10K with a time of 41:03.
  • Jennifer Morello of Wilton, Conn., took first place for the overall 10K female with a time of 44:10.
  • Tommy Delaney of Waccubuc broke his own 2010 5K record, by shedding 10 seconds for a new record of 16:40.
  • Jordan Johnson of Katonah took 1st place gold for overall female with a 5K time of 21:11.
  • Jack Schindler placed as overall winner of the Mile Fun Run with an impressive time of 6:24.
  • The title of overall girl winner went to Grace Moriarty with a time of 7:31.

Coming up in November is the Raven Rocks 10K run at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River and in April, the Leatherman’s Loop, a 10K trail run, will also take place at the county park.
