Schiff, Tobin Win Kat-Lewisboro School Board Race

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – In the race for the Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education, district voters have chosen Marjorie Schiff and Stephanie Tobin as their new trustees.

Schiff and Tobin were the top two vote-getters, garnering 1,473 and 963 votes respectively, according to unofficial results Tuesday night. Richard Delin finished third with 724 votes, while Mindy Yanish came in fourth with 564, unofficial tallies show.

"I'm very excited," Schiff said. "I want to thank my friends and the community members who helped me with my campaign. I'm looking forward to representing the community."

Schiff said she knows there will be a learning curve getting acclimated to the board, but hopes to hit the ground running and was inspired by being the leading vote-getter.

"I am eager to learn," Schiff said. "I think the voter mandate is an affirmation of my” platform, she added.

Shiff and her husband have lived in Pound Ridge for seven years. They have a son in Meadow Pond Elementary and a daughter in nursery school.

She is Long Island native, has a B.A. from Duke University and an M.A. from the University of Michigan. She said she ran for office to help the district balance competing priorities.

Tobin said she felt the voters connected with her platform of stronger academics.

"I am very happy, the community responded," she said. "I needed to be honest and direct and the community has supported my idea of strong academics."

Tobin and her husband have lived in Waccabuc for the past 14 years. They have four children, a son and daughter in John Jay High School, a daughter in John Jay Middle School and a daughter at Increase Miller Elementary.

The new trustees will officially take office on July 6.
