LEWISBORO, N.Y. Lewisboro Elementary School held a schoolwide assembly last week as teacher Marie Calo told the students that this years theme is Respect YES, which means respect yourself, each other and your school.
A slide show was presented, illustrating examples of respect, dignity, acceptance, responsibility, laws and rules, honesty, and courtesy.
Principal Cristy Harris and Calo, a teacher on special assignment, displayed purple rubber bracelets emblazoned with Respect YES. The bracelets, supplied by the PTA, will be distributed when all of the students sign and return an agreement to abide by the rules, found in the Code of Conduct brochure.
Rebecca Hirchel, school psychologist, discussed problems relating to bullying and offered advice to the students. Hirchel encouraged students to speak up for themselves as well as for others in difficult situations involving bullies. They were instructed to tell the bully to stop, to walk away or to ask an adult for help.
Lewisboro Elementary Schools Code of Conduct was then addressed, and bus safety rules were emphasized. Bus check-ups will be scheduled to stress the importance of remaining seated until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, with possible awards for most improvement.
