Katonah-Lewisboro School District Receives Grant For School Officer

LEWISBORO, N.Y. - The Katonah-Lewisboro School District has been awarded another $80,000 grant to retain its school resource officer, State Sen. Greg Ball announced.

Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) said the grant was a result of a three-way agreement between Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the Senate and Assembly.

“In the wake of the horrific Sandy Hook event and other recent school shootings, I believe having a school resource officer is a vital tool to prevent these tragedies. I recently hosted two school safety roundtables and it has become clear that having police officers present in schools serves as not only a deterrent for evil but has proven to be very positive for our children,” said Ball. “I am happy to deliver again for the Katonah-Lewisboro School District and will continue to work with community partners to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, home where it belongs.”

Mike Jumper, assistant superintendent for business at Katonah-Lewisboro School District, said the district was grateful for the monetary help.

“During this time of fiscal constraint we are very pleased to receive this financial support,” he said.  “Through the cooperative efforts of Senator Ball, the town of Lewisboro and the school district, these funds will continue to be used to pay for our school resource officer.”
