The new agreement calls for no increase in the salary schedule in years one and two, followed by a 1 percent increase in the salary schedule in year three. A step ‘freeze’ is in place for year one, and half-step increases are called for in years two and three, the district said.
“I am very excited by this agreement and thank Sandy Grebinar, Geoff Curtis and the KLDTA negotiating team,” Board of Education President Charles Day said in a statement. “I believe we made substantial progress on several issues that will keep our teachers well compensated, while also helping the district reach a sustainable financial footing. I am confident that this agreement will help us maintain our place as one of the top districts in the state, while at the same time changing the trajectory of future budget increases as our labor costs are brought into line with comparable high performing districts in Westchester County.”
The new agreement calls for replacing two Superintendent Conference days with days of instruction and narrowing the salary schedule.
“From an instructional standpoint, the goal, of course, is to make sure we continue to provide students with everything they need to succeed, and I think we have accomplished that with this agreement,” Superintendent Paul Kreutzer said in a statement. “The two additional days of instruction offer us greater flexibility and productivity, especially considering the weather impacts we have experienced over the past two years."
