Stacey Brodsky, 60, is seeking a second term on the Scarsdale Board of Trustees. She is retired but practiced law as a federal prosecutor and was chief of the civil division in the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York. She also taught English in the Blind Brook schools. Her public service includes membership on various boards, including the League of Women Voters, United Way of Scarsdale and Edgemont, the village Board of Architectural Review, the school board nominating committee and the Scarsdale PT Council.
Why would you be a good representative in the coming election?
I think the last two years that I have spent as a trustee have helped me to have a very board understanding of the role of the village in delivering services to the residents, and an understanding of the expenses associated with delivering those services. I bring along view with respect to the needs of the community and how to support the character of our very special village
If elected, what are the three biggest goals you'd work to accomplish?
It’s going to be very important to continue the process of trying to be fiscally responsible, managing the budget in a very difficult tax climate. I also think it’s going to be important to continue to educate people as we proceed through the continuation of the revaluation process so they understand the impact on their taxes as we finish this project and they start to see how it will affect them individually. I think its always very important in our community to take a careful look at how to maintain character as new houses are built and other houses are demolished.
Has the local government made any mistakes or had any oversights that you'd try to avoid? How?
I think the village is run by very experienced, very professional and very committed administrators. I don’t think that there have been any mistakes that need to be redressed. That being said, we always look at whether we are delivering the services to the residents in the best possible way. If there are areas in which mistakes are made I think our professional staff is interested in fixing those. It’s a very easy relationship. I think the board and the staff work well together and work as a team trying always to improve how we handle situations. Every mistake that’s made is a learning opportunity.
What is the best part of Scarsdale?
Twenty years ago my husband and I moved to Scarsdale because we wanted to raise our children in a community. A place that felt like it had an identity and where people knew each other and cared about each other. And we got exactly what we hoped to get when we came here and over the two decades that we lived here. And I think that’s the very best part of Scarsdale for me.
