Karr is the author of “The Liars’ Club,” “Cherry” and “Lit.” She will talk about “Imagination and Passion in Christian Spirituality: Lessons for Writers from the Ignatian Exercises,” which is a Catholicism and the Arts Lecture. The subject involves using Ignatian spirituality in prayer and meditation to decide what to write about.
Karr’s net book, “The ABC of Memoir,” will be released this fall. Her lectures include the same tone as her writings, bringing out a variety of emotions, and she has spoken in many settings. She has been described as spirited and lively, and she allows time for question-and-answer sessions as well.
She has won prizes from Best American Poetry and Pushcart Prizes. She has written four poetry volumes – “Sinners Welcome,” “Viper Rum,” “The Devil’s Tour” and “Abacus.
She is the Jesse Truesdell Peck professor of Literature at Syracuse University, and formerly acted as a guest faculty member in the creative writing program at Fairfield University.
