NORWALK, Conn. – A man was taken away in handcuffs after a three-car collision Thursday afternoon at Wall and Commerce streets in Norwalk. A witness, who was in one of the cars involved, said the man was fleeing Norwalk police when the accident occurred.

The witness said no one was seriously injured in the crash. Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott said two people, who had been in one car, were taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation because they were complaining of neck and back pain.

The driver of a white full-size Ford van fled on foot after the collision, according to the witness, a teenager from Westport. Officers chased the driver and caught him. He was taken away in a Norwalk Hospital ambulance as narcotics officers watched.

The teenage witness said he heard sirens before the car he was in was hit and dragged. He said the white van had been coming from the direction of SoNo with officers in pursuit.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Wall Street was closed for some time because debris was strewn all over the road.
