Lewisboro Conservatives Endorse Donohue for Town Clerk

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Lewisboro Conservative Town Committee has endorsed Janet Donohue as its candidate for Lewisboro town clerk.

The committee met with Donohue last week and voted unanimously to recommend her designation for the Conservative line to County Chair Hugh Fox, said Town Committee Chair Evelyn Kahlow,

According to Kahlow, the factors that were important to the committee in reaching its decision included Donohue’s on-the-job experience serving as former Town Clerk Kathy Cory's deputy clerk for several years, her professional background and the strong recommendation she received from Cory, who stepped down recently after 30 years in the position.

Last March, the Town Board appointed Donohue, a Republican, to fill Cory’s job until an election can be held in November.

"Janet received the unanimous support of the town board when she was appointed to fill the position earlier this year," Kahlow said. "Janet has great people skills and will maintain the spirit of bipartisanship that Kathy [Cory] brought to the position. In her short time as clerk she has already identified ways to improve the delivery of services.”

The Conservative Party represents a third party line on the ballot. Kahlow said the local committee has a tradition of crossing party lines to endorse candidates, most recently endorsing Judge Susan Simon, a Democrat, in last year's general election for town justice.

Kahlow said that, before making its recommendation, the committee also interviewed Donohue’s Democratic opponent, former Lewisboro Ledger columnist Jeff Morris, saying that, while it found him to be candid and capable, the committee felt that Donohue was the better choice.
