LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Janet Donohue officially became the people’s choice for Lewisboro Town Clerk when she was sworn in during a ceremony at the Town House Sunday morning.

Donohue was appointed to the position by the Town Board in March 2012 after longtime Town Clerk Kathy Cory retired. Donohue, a Republican and former deputy town clerk, then defeated Democratic challenger Jeffery Morris in November. She will now finish out the remaining three years on Cory’s four-year term.

Donohue was asked if she envisioned becoming a mainstay at the position like Cory, who served as the town clerk for 30 years.

“You never know,” she said “Kathy (Cory) said she would turn to dust in this office, but look what happened.”

Donohue was sworn in by Town Justice Marc Seedorf using her family Bible.

“It was a wedding gift when I got married 15 years ago,” she said.

Taking the stage with her when she took the oath of office was her husband, Ken, and her two daughters, Jenna, 13, and Lauren, 11.

After the swearing in, a reception brunch was held at the Horse & Hound.

Lewisboro Republican Committee Chair Andrea Rendo, who helped organize the event, said it was planned to be a bi-partisan affair and not a fundraiser for the GOP.

In fact, attendees included several prominent area Democrats, including County Legislator Peter Harckham (D,I–Katonah) and newly elected state Assembly member David Buchwald (D,I–White Plains), as well as Lewisboro Supervisor Peter Parsons, Lewisboro Democratic Committee Co-Chair Alan Cole, and town board member Dan Welsh. Donohue said she wasn’t expecting such a formal affair to mark her swearing in, but said she appreciated the support.

“It means the world to me,” she said. “And I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family. I look forward to working with the town board. We have a very professional atmosphere here at the Town House and I love the town of Lewisboro.”
