At 5 p.m. an officer was told by witnesses that a naked female smashed the side window and gained entry to the chapel and living quarters of the resident priest at St. Clements Church, 535 Fairfield Ave., police said.

The witnesses pointed out a window where a female, later identified as Celina Kelly, 32, gained entry and was inside destroying items, according to police.

The officer looked inside the chapel and saw Kelly destroying it with a fire extinguisher, police said.

The resident priest confronted her in the basement as she was kicking in a door to the resident area, according to police.

The officer called for backup. Meanwhile, the priest was able to escape through a chapel door, police said.

Police arrested Kelly without incident, who they say was obviously under the influence of some type of narcotic and admitted to smoking marijuana laced with a chemical shortly before going on her rampage, according to police.

Kelly was transported to Stamford Hospital for treatment and will be charged with second-degree burglary, and second-degree criminal mischief. Bond was set at $20,000.

Stamford police regularly conduct programmed patrols in the city, including at all places of worship, according to police.

"We were fortunate that Officer Bulman was at this location (at) the time of the incident. Being on this programmed patrol allowed us to respond immediately, alert other officers, and arrest the perpetrator in a timely manner," police said of the incident.
