Lewisboro Cops: Van Approaches Girl Outside School

LEWISBORO, N.Y. — A teenage South Salem girl was approached by a man in a gold van as she waited outside Lewisboro Elementary School for her mother to pick her up from camp, according to Lewisboro Police.

The teen reported that on Thursday, July 12, she was dropped off by bus at the school after Teen Trek Day Camp, to be picked up by her mother, who was running late, police said. Around 3:20 p.m., a gold-colored van with a Connecticut plate pulled up to where she was waiting, police said.

According to police, the male driver got out and said to her, "Hey little girl, need a ride? I can take you anywhere." She became alarmed and ran into the school, police said. She told police the driver, whom she described as a black man, approximately 40 years old, with a thin build, bald head and mustache, stood around for a few moments and then got into the van and drove away.

The girl told police there were no counselors waiting with her. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

A patient at Four Winds Hospital was acting out of control and threatening to kill staff members, according to Lewisboro Police, who received a call from the mental health facility on July 10 at 8:36 p.m. When officers arrived at the hospital at 800 Cross River Road in Katonah, they were told the staff had been able to get the 6-foot-2, 300-pound patient into a locked room but needed to move him to a secure part of the building. Police helped move the patient and remained until doctors were able to administer medication to calm him down.
