Louis Dermako, 94, South Salem WWII, Korean War Veteran

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Louis L. Dermako, a retired U.S. Marine Corps captain, died Feb. 13 at his home in South Salem. He was 94.

Dermako was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to Alphonse and Stella Dermako.  He married Margaret Quinlan Dermako in 1946 at Camp Lejeune, N.C. She predeceased him in 2002. 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired after 24 years of service, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. After returning from service, he worked in the financial department of various hospitals, including Hudson Valley Hospital.

Dermako was then appointed treasurer of Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, N.Y., until his retirement in 2001. He also was a fourth-degree member in the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three children, Thomas Dermako, Margaret (Gary) Kaplan and Louis Timothy (Hazel) Dermako; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
