Police: Lewisboro Man Shoots Neighbor in Head

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – A 78-year-old Lewisboro man has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, after police say he shot his neighbor in the back of her head.

State police and Lewisboro police were called to a residence on Sunny Ridge Road in the Lake Katonah section in Lewisboro at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday on the report of a woman who was shot in the back of the head while in the front yard area of her residence. Officers located the victim, age 56, at her residence with a non-life-threatening injury to the back of her head.

The woman told police that she was preparing to enter her home when she heard a loud bang and experienced severe pain to the back of her head. She immediately ran into her house, believing that she had just been shot, and called for help. She was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco for treatment.

The investigation revealed that she was shot with a .22-caliber projectile. It appeared that the shot came from a property across the street from the victim’s home, according to police.

Police said the owner of that residence, Richard Wilson, fled the area but was located approximately three hours later in the Goldens Bridge Shopping Plaza by investigating troopers. Wilson was arrested without incident.

A search of Wilson's residence resulted in the seizure of a quantity of firearms, police said, including two unregistered handguns and a large quantity of ammunition.

Wilson was arraigned before the Town of Lewisboro Court on the second-degree assault charge and remanded to the Westchester County Jail on $50,000 bail. He is due back in court June 11. Additional charges are pending.

Police did not provide a motive for the alleged attack but are seeking any witnesses who may have heard or seen something or anyone else who may have information that could aid with the investigation.
