Lewisboro Library Plans Informational Events In January

LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The Lewisboro Library will host a variety of informational events beginning on Saturday, Jan. 4.

The schedule and a brief overview of events are listed below.

Saturday, Jan. 4: Environmental Film Series: "I AM" "I AM” is an entertaining and inspiring documentary that poses two questions: what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better?  Hollywood filmmaker Tom Shadyac recounts his ordeal with a serious cycling accident, which made him determined to shed his prior life of excess and greed, and to investigate how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and walk in the world.

Time: 2 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 9: Music Together A great way to sample one of the popular area music programs. Suzanne Lawson of Bedford Arts and Music leads this musical story program for infants up to age 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Time: 1:30 p.m.

iPad Tips & Tricks Want to learn how to use your iPad more effectively? Beginners and more advanced users are invited to learn useful tips, tricks and apps for the iPad. Be prepared to share your favorites too!

Time: 2:30 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 10: SuperWhoLock (teen program grades 6 and up) Mash-ups are popular, so our teen advisory Group has mashed together a program for teen fans of the TV shows “Supernatural,” “Dr. Who” and “Sherlock!” Come talk about what will happen to your favorite characters while munching on pizza and special theme foods (Nutella, anyone?) There will be a costume competition for those who want to come in character. Raffle prizes include posters and t-shirts.

Time: 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 14:

Book Bingo (children's program: grades 1-5)

Similar to standard bingo, our game features book titles instead of numbers and letters. Prizes awarded for every winning game board. Registration is required.

Story Hours Begin Lewisboro Library Book Group

Downloading eBooks To Your iPad Learn how to download free eBooks onto your iPad using the Westchester Library System's free download services.

Saturday, Jan. 25:

Saturday Art Workshop (children's program: grades 1-5) Learn how to use a simple print making technique to create unique greeting cards. It can get messy,  so bring an art smock or old t-shirt! Facilitated by Sue Carpenter, assistant professor in education, City University of New York ( N.Y. state certified in art, music and special education).

eBooks for Android Devices:

Learn how to download free eBooks and audiobooks to your android device.  Please specify device when registering.

Sunday, Jan. 26:

Annual Speaker: Author John Steele Gordon

This year’s guest speaker is author John Steele Gordon, who will be discussing “Entrepreneurship in American History.”  Gordon is the author of seven books including "The Scarlet Woman of Wall Street," a history of Wall Street in the 1860's, "A Thread Across the Ocean," the story of the laying of the Atlantic cable, and "An Empire of Wealth," a history of the American economy. He has also written articles for Forbes, National Review and the Weekly Standard. The presentation will be preceded by a short business meeting.

Tuesday, Jan. 28:

Getting Started on Facebook A basic class for beginning and intermediate Facebook users.

Time: 11 a.m.
