Dry Ice, Water Available At Lewisboro Town House

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – For New York State Electric and Gas customers in Lewisboro who are still without power as a result of Thursday night’s storm, dry ice and bottled water are available at the Town House as of 3 p.m. Friday.

While the Town House will close at 5 p.m., the water and ice have been stored behind the building, and residents can pick them up there after hours.

Deputy Supervisor Peter DeLucia said that as of 1:30 p.m., the number of NYSEG customers without power had been reduced to 200 – down from the more than 1,800 outages reported Thursday night.

DeLucia, Assembly member Robert Castelli and Adam Ochs of the Lewisboro Office of Emergency Management conducted a conference call with NYSEG officials Friday afternoon. NYSEG had been criticized for its response in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and the snowstorm in October, but Castelli had praise for the power company this time around.

“NYSEG did a great job this time,” he said. “They brought their A game.”

DeLucia said the power company had response teams ready to go Thursday “while the skies were still blue.”

Castelli also noted how well the response teams, volunteers and local governments worked in sync to avert a major crisis.

“This is what happens when governments work together,” he said. “All the police, fire departments and emergency service performed admirably.”

The assemblyman said the town’s and NYSEG’s experiences with last year’s power outages made them better prepared for this storm.

“The town reached out to (Recreation Director) Dana Mayclim, who is in charge of the seniors,” he said. “And they worked with NYSEG to make sure they were restored first. We got the most critically needed taken care of first. That was a lesson learned from last year’s storms.”

DeLucia said NYSEG is projecting all power to be restored by 1 p.m. Saturday, but he is hoping it will happen even sooner.
