What To Do In Lewisboro And Pound Ridge This Weekend

Saturday marks the first day of autumn and the weatherman is promising a stellar weekend to get outside and have some fun. You can visit a farmers' market, check out the Wolf Conservation Center’s myriad programs or hike a nature preserve. Music lovers can head over to the Ridgefield Playhouse and indulge in the classic folk of Peter & Paul (formerly of Peter, Paul & Mary) or the classic rock of Grand Funk Railroad.

Friday, Sept.21

Sleeping With Wolves: 7-9 a.m. The Wolf Conservation Center’s new nocturnal adventure experience gives visitors a chance to camp out overnight with the 25 wolves that call the center home. With all the howls and nature’s nighttime chatter, you’ll feel as if you’re camping under the stars with wild wolves. Cost is $275 per four-person tent. Singles are $150 but must bring their own tent. Admission includes a pizza party with the center’s ambassador wolves, an opportunity to behold critically endangered red and Mexican wolves, a movie under the stars, evening snacks and a light breakfast. Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey at Ridgefield Playhouse: 8 p.m. From the iconic folk-singing trio Peter, Paul & Mary, Grammy Award-winners Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey carry on the tradition and legacy of their famed 1960s folk group. Without their beloved Mary, Peter and Paul continue to perform as a duo, singing many of the group’s classic hits, including “If I Had a Hammer,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Puff (The Magic Dragon,)” “I Dig Rock & Roll Music,” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org. 80 East Road, Ridgefield, Conn.

Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Gossett Brothers Farm Market features fresh produce, meats and cheese, as well as seafood. The market is at 1202 Route 35, at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

Evening Howl for All Ages: 6-7:30 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a special Evening Howl and visit the wolves during their favorite hour – dusk. Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America and enjoy a sunset howl with the wolves. You’ll observe the center’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican wolves, as well. Cost is $16 for adults and $13 for children under 12. Registration is required. Grand Funk Railroad at Ridgefield Playhouse: 8 p.m. One of the top-selling American rock groups of the ‘70s is “Comin' to your town to help you party it down!" Known as “The American Band,” the high-energy group will be marking a 42-year milestone with its 2012 tour. During their career, Grand Funk has had 19 charted singles, eight Top 40 hits and two No. 1 singles (“We’re An American Band” and “Locomotion,” both selling more than one million copies each. Hudson River Valley Ramble: Noon to 3 p.m. Join the Westchester Land Trust for its 13th annual Hudson River Valley Ramble. Take the Westchester Wilderness Walk through the Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge. Experience the nature trails that wind through wetlands and woodlands with rare plants, dramatic rock formations, soaring tulip trees and dozens of different species of birds. The guide will describe the flora and fauna and the grassroots efforts that saved this beautiful area from development. Two hikes are offered: an easy 1.5-mile hike and a moderate 3.5-mile hike with some assents. The hike is free and begins on Upper Shad Road. Live Music at North Star: 6:30-9:30 p.m. Dennis Collins and Mike DiMeo will perform at the North Star restaurant in Pound Ridge. Collins, who is accompanied on piano by DiMeo, has recorded with stars such as Roberta Flack, Sting, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill.
