“This heat and humidity will foster strong storms along a cold front by Sunday afternoon and evening for the interior Northeast,” AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Ryan Adamson said.
The storm chance continues through Tuesday. The highest likelihood for severe storms is on Monday, when flash flooding is also possible.
Damaging winds that cause power outages and tree damage will be the most widespread hazards, Adamson said.
Heat and humidity peaks on Sunday with the high temp climbing to near 85 degrees. It will be a mostly cloudy day with patchy fog before 9 a.m. and a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely Monday, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain and flooding on another mostly cloudy day with a high temp in the low-80s.
More showers and storms are likely Monday night into Tuesday before clouds give way to mostly sunny skies with a high again in the low-80s.
