Hurricane Jose is making its way north alongside the Northeast and will bring soaking rain and gusty winds to parts of the Hudson Valley, especially along the coast, Tuesday.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Southern Westchester. Heavy rain is expected for the entire county Tuesday, with showers on Wednesday. Rain throughout the day Tuesday is expected in Rockland, with morning showers Wednesday.

Areas farther north in the Hudson Valley, including Putnam and Dutchess, will see mainly showers both Tuesday and possibly Wednesday as well.

Hurricane Jose is centered about 280 miles east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on Monday morning. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph with higher gusts. Some gradual weakening is expected during the next couple of days. But Jose is forecast to remain a hurricane through Tuesday.

“Although Jose will generally pass offshore of much of the East Coast, a landfall can still not be ruled out as Jose makes its closest pass to the United States,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

Eastern Long Island and southeastern New England would be at greatest risk for landfall should it occur, Pydynowski said.

Two new storms, Lee and Maria, joined Jose in the Atlantic basin on Saturday. In its early stages, Maria appears to be following a similar path to Hurricane Irma, with emergency preparations well under way in Puerto Rico.
