CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- A motor-vehicle crash resulted in the closure of a stretch of Gideon Reynolds Road between Silkman Lane and Route 121 near John Jay High School in Cross River for approximately three hours during the Thursday morning commute.

South Salem firefighters responded to the rollover, which involved a garbage truck, just after 5:30 a.m.

While responding, units were updated that the single occupant had self-extricated. As the driver was being evaluated by EMS, firefighters began the task of containing the approximately 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid that had spilled out of the truck, the South Salem Fire Department reported.
