Jonah Gorevic of Rye, a sixth-grader at Hackley School in Tarrytown, set new national youth records in both the 1,500-meter run (4:36.23) and the 3,000-meter run (9:44.97) for 11- to 12-year-old boys.
The competition took place March 13-15 during the Hershey Youth Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.
Jonah also placed second in his age group running 800 meters in 2:21.28.
Jonah, who is now 11 years old, set a world record as a 10-year-old, running the mile in 5:01 in June 2014. His parents are Jason and Diana Gorevic, both of whom have run marathons and half-marathons.
Westchester Tailwind Track Club had another national champion in the 3000-meter run in the girls' 15/16 age group: Olivia Curran of White Plains ran 11:15.57 for first place and All-America status. Her father, Carl, is coach of the Tailwind Track Club. Olivia also placed fifth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:14.68.

Pippa Nuttall of Katonah (15-16-year-old girls). She placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:17.21. She also placed fourth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:12.31. Julia Plawiak of Yonkers (9-10-year-old girls) She placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:27.45 and fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:47.23.
Five additional local athletes qualified for and participated in the USATF Youth Nationals at Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex: Josh Goldberg and Curtis Alter, both of Mamaroneck; Ari and Leart Bakraqi of Yonkers and James Spencer of West Harrison.
