Former major league player Shane Spencer, who appeared in four World Series with the Yankees, will be on hand to meet and greet youngsters (and oldsters) and autograph photos. He appears through the courtesy of Ring’s End and Joe Espinosa’s Baseball Plus.
Opening Day ceremonies will include the traditional barbecue picnic, served by the Lewisboro Lions Club from noon to 1 p.m., followed by the traditional Parade of Teams at 1 p.m.
The food will be prepared by Lions Club lions, under the supervision of Sue Vales, owner of South Salem’s Horse & Hound Inn.
LBA merchandise will be available during the opening day event and raffle tickets will include prizes like tickets for Mets and Yankees games. The drawings will be done during the ceremony.
This year’s honorees will include Peter Cipriano of Copia Home and Garden in Vista. During the fall, Cipriano coordinated with the Lewisboro Garden Club to install over 1,000 ground cover plants along the hill behind the backstop, to enhance appearance, reduce maintenance and promote safety.
Other honorees include retiring LBA Board members John Corelli, Mike Begley, Pat Carbery and Tom Beneventano. In addition, current board member Dean Travalino will receive the “Spirit of the LBA Award.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the festivities. The entrance to Lewisboro Town Park is on the south side of Route 35, west of Bouton Road, in Cross River.
