Manhattan College Coach Masiello Visits Harvey

KATONAH, N.Y. -- Manhattan College men's basketball coach Steve Masiello, a graduate of The Harvey School, returned to his alma mater Monday to speak to the student body at the weekly Headmaster's Meeting.

Masiello, who graduated from Harvey in 1996 and went on to play at the University of Kentucky, was named last month as the All-Metropolitan Writer's Association Co-Coach of the Year for his work in turning around the Manhattan basketball program. The coach spoke about "play in the game of life" telling the students to surround themselves with "people who are better" to challenge themselves.

"Whether you have come up short in any way or did better or you felt you did well, work to do better the next time," Masiello said, who took Manhattan from a 6-25 season in 2010-11 to a 21-13 record last season.

Masiello, who scored more than 1,000 points in his career at Harvey, spoke about his time at Kentucky playing with players who were bound for professional basketball and being "beaten up on the court by players who were better and hungrier" leaving him the options of either working harder or quitting."

"There was no way I was going to quit doing what I loved to do," Masiello said. "No one really cares about what you know until they know how much you care. Chase greatness. Don't be satisfied with just being good."
