LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- After nearly 36 years, the Lewisboro Soccer Club has been re-branded as the John Jay Futbol Club, complete with a new design and shield.
"Hopefully, through the re-branding, we reinforce the connections we all have to this community, said Chris Rietsch, president of the club. "By rallying around our
high school program through both the name change, and the direct connections we have already begun to implement, we can create one focal point that we can
all rally around, share and take pride in being a part of."
Phil Yarnel, who runs a graphic design company out of North Salem called SMAY, is responsible for the new look of the John Jay Futbul Club, which Rietsch hopes provides a change in perception.
"It was important for us to have a central image for us to rally around," he said. "There is more black in it and the use of the wings on it. We tried to utilize imaginary and color scheme to change a little bit of the attitude and feeling of the club. I think we got there. We have a logo now that people are proud to wear on their shirts."
When something has been entrenched in a community as long as the Lewisboro soccer club was, there can be resistance to change. But Rietsch says it's been
accepted and embraced.
"I thought one of the hurdles to overcome would be re-purchasing uniforms," he said. "That would be a requirement for 230 people participating in the travel programs. I got zero push-back from that. Everybody will have one common shirt and it's great for community interaction."
