SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Each time it appeared that Sleepy Hollow was going to run away with the game, John Jay-Cross River kept answering back Saturday.

Sleepy Hollow would build a 17-point lead in the second half only to have John Jay storm back and close within a touchdown with 90 seconds remaining in the Section 1 Class A football game.

The resilient Indians had the Headless Horsemen nervous, but Sleepy Hollow held on in a high-scoring 43-36 victory.

John Jay dropped to 2-2 and will host Rye Saturday night. The Indians can’t afford another loss in their three remaining games or they will be in danger of missing the Section 1 Class A playoffs.

Jack Lambert had an excellent game. He had 11 catches for 124 yards, including two touchdowns. He also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Joe Kells and had a 20-yard scoring run.

Tyler Keech completed 12 of 25 passes in the second half for 160 yards and two scores, both to Lambert.
