CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- John Jay-Cross River came up one game shy of winning the Section 1 Class A Football Championship last year. Friday, the Indians begin their quest for a return trip to the final, but with different results.

John Jay will make the trip across the Tappan Zee Bridge to play Tappan Zee, 7 p.m.

The Indians also want to have a better start. Last year, John Jay dropped its’ first two games, resulting in a must-win situation the remainder of the regular season. John Jay won out and stretched its’ winning streak to seven going into the Section 1 Class A title game.

John Jay comes into the game returning two of its’ top three offensive weapons in quarterback Tyler Keech and quarterback/wide receiver Jack Lambert. The Indians also have one of the best two-way lineman in Section 1 in Jason Valavano.
