John Jay hosts Somers in Football Playoffs

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- John Jay has entered the Section 1 Class A Football Championships with loads of momentum, riding a six-game winning streak and playing excellent football.

The Indians, 6-1, are seeded first out of their league and will host fourth-seeded Somers, 5-2, in a first-round game, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. John Jay manhandled Roosevelt, 42-13, to close out the regular season as Tyler Keech and Anthony Scapperotti each scored two touchdowns. Scapperotti had a 50-yard interception return for a score.

Somers was one of many teams in need of a win last week in order to qualify for the playoffs. The Tuskers raced out to a three-touchdown lead in an eventual 28-14 win over Eastchester. Stefano Bicknese had eight carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
