John Jay Basketball Faces Tough Test Against Somers

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The John Jay High School boys’ basketball team faces a tough task when it hosts Somers High School on Friday at 6:45 p.m.

Somers enters the game on an eight-game winning streak and has been riding a wave of success since its buzzer-beating win against Iona Prep in the Slam Dunk Tournament in December.

Senior guard John Decker, in particular, has been a force for the Tuskers. He scored 39 points, the second-most in Slam Dunk Tournament history, against Iona Prep and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer against Brewster on Jan. 10.

But the Indians have some firepower of their own. Senior forward Jack Paccione, who stands at 6 foot 6  provides some excellent size and experience for John Jay. Will Jahn has been on the team for three years and accompanies Paccione at the forward position.

The key for the Indians will be slowing down Decker. Brewster held him to 17 points but he still found a way to perform in the clutch and lift the Tuskers to victory. John Jay’s perimeter defenders will need to disrupt Decker’s jump shot and prevent him from getting into a groove.
