LEWISBORO, N.Y. – John Jay Cross River High School boys’ basketball player Jack Paccione is The Lewisboro Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for January.
Paccione is one of three captains for the Indians and has been one of the most consistent players for the team this season. Head coach Tom Nelligan recognized Paccione’s improvement in the month of January.
“Jack’s just a real hard-working kid,” said. “He spent a lot of time in the gym this summer and he’s really come on in the last couple of weeks.”
The 6’6” senior registered nine points and 12 rebounds in a Jan. 30 win against Brewster. He also tallied 15 points and nine rebounds in a three-point loss Jan. 29 to Carmel and 11 points in a 54-51 loss Jan. 18 to Somers.
Even in the losses, Paccione has done all he could to help John Jay.
“The whole season I've just focused on playing as hard as possible and trying to get my team to win and making my teammates better, too,” Paccione said.
Nelligan noted Paccione brings the same level of effort and attitude into each game and that his greatest consistency is in his defense and rebounding.
“We haven’t had an awful lot of team success, but he’s done a nice job,” Nelligan said.
Paccione said his goal for the rest of his final season is to just get a few more wins and end the season on a high note. He already has begun to reflect on his time at John Jay.
“I’m going to miss high school basketball a lot. I put a lot of time into it on the court and off the court,” Paccione said. “I’m going to miss the coaches and my teammates.”
