Ex-Northern Westchester HS Stars Help Wesleyan Lacrosse Make National Final

Wesleyan University's men's lacrosse team has advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game on Memorial Day weekend and several former high school standouts from Fairfield and Westchester counties are a big reason why.

The Cardinals upset top-ranked and previously unbeaten RIT 19-18 on Sunday afternoon in Rochester and will play either two-time defending national champion Salisbury or Gettysburg in the title game in Foxborough, Mass., on Sunday, May 27.

Former New Canaan High School star Harry Stanton, a senior attackman, had six goals for the Cardinals. Senior midfielder Cole Turpin, another New Canaan HS product, had three goals and one assist for Wesleyan (18-3).

Three Wesleyan players from Westchester  -- senior midfielder Eric Meyreles of Yorktown, junior longstick midfielder Chad Malinowski and defenseman sophomore Colin Malarchuk of Briarcliff Manor -- had strong games on defense. Malinowski is a graduate of The Hackley School and Malarchuk of Fordham Prep.

Former Hen Hud standout Ryan Tandy, a sophomore attackman, had four goals for RPI.

RIT, which ends the season 21-1, defeated Wesleyan in last year's semifinals 22-9 before losing to Salisbury 15-7 in the title game.
