Daniellos Lead Prime Time to Lacrosse Title

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Nick Daniello raced out of his New York City office late on Monday primed for a championship game. The former John Jay-Cross River lacrosse standout would join younger brother, Chris, and many of their fellow John Jay alumni looking to defend their Sound Shore Mens’ Lacrosse League Division I title.

Thanks to a hat trick from Chris Daniello and a strong defensive showing, spearheaded by Nick Daniello, Prime Time beat previously undefeated No Limit, 8-4, in the championship game.

It was the second consecutive Division I title for the Daniello brothers and their teammates. Prime Time, seeded second, finishes with a 7-2 record and top-seeded No Limit concludes with a 7-1 mark.

“This is a great group of guys and many of us played together at John Jay,” said Nick Daniello, who works on Wall Street and is a third-year student at Touro Law School. “That’s what makes it so much fun. After a long day at the office there is nothing better than coming out and playing in a lacrosse championship game.”

Chris Daniello, who starred at and captained Syracuse University's squad after his John Jay career, followed Nick Hautau with two goals, hiking the lead to 3-0. His second goal was worthy of an ESPN Top 10 moment. With his back to the goal and from point-blank range, he flipped a shot between his legs that hugged the ground and beat the goalie.

“That was just unbelievable,” said Nick Daniello of Chris’ second goal. “He is a tremendous athlete and very creative. It’s fun watching Chris do that and playing with him.”

The Prime Time defense clamped down on a high-octane No Limit offense, holding it scoreless through the first 15 minutes of the opening half before Syracuse University star JoJo Marasco, a Somers High School alumnus, and former Syracuse University star Paul Carcaterra scored, making the score 3-2.

Brian Douglass and Chris Daniello answered right back with goals. Ethan Vedder, a Yorktown and Cornell graduate, drew No Limit to within 5-3 on a goal 3:23 into the second half, but that would it for the top seed until Marasco’s score with 44 seconds remaining in the game.

“We have some tremendous all-Americans on defense and they are great guys and great players,” Nick Daniello said.

Douglass finished with two goals for the champs and recent Bronxville graduate Charlie McCormick netted a goal.
