LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- Three juvenile subjects have been arrested following a report of graffiti, including a swastika, at the former Lewisboro Elementary School grounds

Graffiti that includes a swastika was discovered on the playground equipment on the elementary school grounds late last month.

The three, whose names are not being released, have been charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree (a misdemeanor) in connection with the incident that was reported on Dec. 27.

The matter was referred to the Westchester County Family Court due to the subjects’ ages.

The graffiti was initially found and reported by a community member, Katonah-Lewisboro Schools Superintendent Andrew Selesnick announced in an email to parents at the time.

Lewisboro Elementary School, which is located in South Salem, was closed in June 2014 due to falling enrollment in the school district's youngest grades. The closure, which was vehemently opposed by a group of school parents, entailed consolidated the district's elementary students into the three remaining schools.

The school district has explored the possibility of renting out the school but has not announced any tenants.
