Over 500 young people from all parts of New York competed in many types of contests, such as saw-cutting, tree identification, plant life, axe-throwing and tree-climbing.

Tree-climbers were instructed to scale a 40-foot tree, walk out on three branches to touch flags and then descend. Carelli, a senior at John Jay High School, completed the task with a time of three minutes, 27 seconds, beating out all other competitors.
