The students at Lewisboro Elementary School and throughout the Katonah-Lewisboro School District now have another organization to help enrich their learning experience.
The Katonah-Lewisboro Foundation has been launched in an effort to raise money to augment and compliment the work being already being done by other fundraising organizations, such as the PTA and Boosters Club.
It was formed last spring, said Holly Alexander, a member of the Foundations executive board. It was the brainchild of school board member Janet Harckham. She was aware that these types of foundations existed and was motivated to get one started here. She got it together pretty fast.
Alexander said the Foundation has already begun raising funds and is the middle of holding a series of informational cocktail parties to let school district residents learn what it is all about.
We dont want to fund something thats already being done by other organizations, such as the Boosters or the PTA, she explained. We are focusing on things such as providing iPads for the classrooms, adding SmartBoard technology, setting up lecture series, and bringing in guest speakers.
The funding ideas can range from anything from the arts to sports.
Those with ideas can log on to the Foundations website KLFound.org and submit applications for programs theyd like to see funded. The website also provides other information about the organization, such as when and where the next informational cocktail party will be held. The next one is slated for July 9.
