The Katonah-Lewisboro School District will close its schools on Wednesday and will make day-to-day decisions on additional closings for the remainder of the week.
While the schools will be closed, the district will open John Jay High School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday for those who’d like to take a shower or charge electronic devices. Officials say to bring your own soap and towels.
Deputy Supervisor Peter DeLucia said that bottled water and dry ice will be available at the Town House and the three fire stations on a first-come, first-served basis. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, there was still bottled water, but dry ice supplies were depleted. More supplies are expected Wednesday.
“It goes fast,” said DeLucia. “We should have more [dry ice] by mid-day on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, town officials remind motorists that all local roads remain closed to nonessential traffic until further notice.
“We are working hard to get them cleaned up,” said DeLucia. “There are a lot of trees that are leaning on wires and it’s a very dangerous situation. We have about 60 trees in precarious positions or blocking the road. The highway department is working closely with NYSEG to clear them up.”
DeLucia said residents should not try to clear trees that are touching power lines.
“The wires could still be live,” he said. “Our own highway department won’t touch them until NYSEG has seen them first.”
DeLucia said no serious injuries resulting from the storm have been reported in Lewisboro; however, he said, there was a lot of “serious property damage.”
He said the town’s firehouses and the Town House will remain open for shelter and as a charging station for electronic devices.
