Kat-Lewisboro To Discuss Unfunded Mandate Relief

GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. – Relief from unfunded state mandates will be the topic when Sen. Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson), Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R, C-Goldens Bridge) and Katonah-Lewisboro School District Superintendent Paul Kreutzer host a roundtable Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Ball said he wants to get input from the entire community. The session will take place at 3 p.m. in the district offices at Increase Miller Elementary School.

“Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to hear the concerns of taxpayers, parents, school administrators and the community regarding unfunded mandates,” Ball said. “Paul [Kreutzer] has been an effective advocate on behalf of the taxpayers and is an innovative leader with a wealth of experience. Albany needs to get proactive and serious about unfunded mandates and let municipalities, teachers and administrators do their job.

Kreutzer said one of the purposes of the event is to help the school district build a relationship with Ball and Castelli.

“With half of the state budget going towards education, it is very important that we have a working relationship with our elected officials,” he said. “One of our major concerns is unfunded mandate relief. We are concerned about how much authority the state has over how we do business, but they are not worried about how to pay for it.”

Ball said the legislature needs to deliver a comprehensive unfunded mandate relief reform package to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“The details in that package will be critically important, and I am eager to get input from Paul [Kreutzer] and the entire community,” Ball said.
