CROSS RIVER, N.Y. After reviewing Governor Cuomos 2012-13 budget proposal and state aid projections, Katonah-Lewisboro School District officials say they expect to receive an increase of approximately 3.8 percent in aid for the coming school year, its first increase in three years.
Although the state document indicates a substantially higher increase, Michael Jumper, the districts assistant superintendent for business, said he analyzed and evaluated the information to determine the actual increase number and percentage. The state did not include Educational Job Funds (EJF), which are in the amount of $376,000, in the 2011-12 state aid run. The EJF funds are monies that were not used in 2010-11 and are being carried over to the current school year, which means the 2011-12 state aid total cited in the state aid at $5,977,288 is understated. Adding the $376,000 in EJF to this number brings it to $6,353,288 as the actual 2011-12 state aid total.
The projected 2012-13 state aid total that the governor provided is $6,597,004; an increase of $243,716 or 3.8 percent from the actual 2011-12 total.
Well be carefully monitoring the state budget development process over the next several months," Jumper said. This is the first increase in state aid the district may receive since the 2009-10 fiscal year. During the first implementation of the tax cap were hoping that the state will continue to support our educational system.
