LEWISBORO, N.Y. Schools Superintendent Paul Kreutzer has announced that the Katonah-Lewisboro school board has appointed Patricia Kristoferson as supervisor of transportation.
Kristoerfsons appointment is effective July 9. She replaces Jim Minihan, who left the district last month for the same position in the Ossining School District.
We are pleased to welcome Ms. Kristoferson and believe that, with her background in management and school bus services, she will be an excellent supervisor of transportation for our district, Kreutzer said.
Kristoferson has a background in administration, operations, customer service, human resources, and budgetary supervision. She is also a New York State-certified school bus driver instructor and a 19A examiner, qualifying her to assist the district in complying with legal transportation regulations. She holds a bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
With 22 years of managerial experience, Kristoferson comes to the district with 12 years of leadership background in the school bus services arena. She currently serves as location manager for First Student, a school bus transportation company, managing the operation of a school bus fleet for the Poughkeepsie City School District and the Wallkill School District. In this capacity, she supervises and trains employees, including school bus monitors, drivers, safety coordinators, dispatchers, mechanics, and administrative personnel.
Board of Education President Mark Lipton said the board strove to be thorough in its contract development with Kristoferson. He said it is reflective of market conditions and resembles more of a private sector model. Her annual salary will be pro-rated based upon $104,000 since she is starting on July 9 instead of July 1 and she will pay 15 percent of her health-insurance premiums, with the board reserving the right to increase the contribution by up to 1 percent annually.
Under the terms of the contract, the districts liability for health insurance is capped at a defined dollar figure. No vacation time can be accumulated it must be used annually or lost and no other accruals upon separation are built into the contract. Kristoferson is also entitled to health-insurance benefits into retirement, but only after completing 15 years of consecutive service in the district, and with the requirement that she must annually pay the dollar equivalent of her contribution on her last day of employment with the district, or until she becomes Medicare eligible.
With her extensive school transportation experience, Ms. Kristoferson is an excellent choice to lead our vast and complex transportation system, Lipton said. We welcome her to Katonah-Lewisboro.
