John Jay HS Students Advance To Next Round Of 'Poetry Out Loud'

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Two John Jay High School students represented their school recently at the regional level of the Poetry Out Loud competition at SUNY Purchase College.

Jessica Moss, who previously won John Jay High School's 2016 Poetry Out Loud contest, was joined at the regional competition by Isaiah Blum, the earlier contest's runner-up, according to a statement from the Katonah-Lewisboro School District.

Once performing at the regional level on Feb. 2, the students were forced to recite three poems by memory, said Jeanetta Bryant, a John Jay High School English teacher.

"Both of the students made it to the highly selective third round. ... The students did a fantastic job at the competition," Bryant said.
