John Goetz Leaving Katonah-Lewisboro After Three-Year 'Interim' Tenure

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- Although employees who serve on an interim basis are meant to be temporary, John Goetz has garnered a relatively long tenure.

In the three years that Goetz has worked as a Katonah-Lewisboro administrator he has gone from one interim post to another.

Goetz, who arrived in the district in 2012, served as John Jay High School's interim principal before becoming the district's interim superintendent last summer.

Earlier this month at a school board meeting, Goetz was honored with a creative farewell tribute from fellow administrators. The tribute included a farewell speech for Goetz while he was handled grocery store products whose brand labels were connected to literary puns.

At the board's meeting on Thursday night, Goetz gave farewell remarks while thanking officials.

“I just want to thank the board for the opportunity,” Goetz said about being able to serve.

Goetz also noted the duration of his time in Katonah-Lewisboro.

“It’s been challenging, it’s been exciting, it’s been rewarding.”

The outgoing administrator also had praise for the district.

“This is an excellent school system. It truly is.”

Goetz then held up a purple shirt, which he says folks from the district office gave to him, that said "It's Official... I'M DONE."

Goetz will continue serving as interim superintendent until June 30. He will be succeeded by Andrew Selesnick, who is coming to the district from Chappaqua, where he currently serves as an assistant superintendent.
