LEWISBORO, N.Y. It is harvest time again at Lewisboro Elementary School.
Since the last school year, the students at Lewisboro Elementary have been maintaining the schools first sustainable garden in the buildings courtyard. The crops are grown throughout the spring, summer and fall and are used to create soup for lunch. The rest of the vegetables are sold off with the profits helping to maintain the garden.
The idea for the garden came from second grade teacher Denise Lupia, who oversaw the project.
Every student came in and partnered up one would dig and the other would plant the seeds, she said. They really got into it.
The students harvested the vegetables and herbs yesterday (Tuesday) and began chopping them up for the soup, which is being served today (Wednesday). Contact Michelle Colman at email@example.com if you want to help out.
