LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- John Jay Middle School recently received a "very generous donation" of technology equipment from the Forever Molly and Gregory Fund, according to a news release from the district.
The donation will help to provide "major upgrades" to John Jay Middle School classrooms, according to the release. Representatives with the Katonah-Lewisboro School District said they wished to extend their "heartfelt gratitude" to the group for the donation, according to the release.
The Forever Molly And Gregory Fund "was established in memory of Molly and Gregory Friedlander and their mother, Amy, and supports initiatives relating to academics, athletics and the arts that positively impact the two children’s classmates," according to the release.
"Middle School Art Teacher Spencer Eldridge was instrumental in connecting with Forever Fund Co-founder Lisa Cohen and identifying ways to best benefit students," representatives said in the release. "As a result, the organization provided an $11,029.08 grant to the District, which facilitated a major technological upgrade to the Middle School’s sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade art classrooms."
The donation helped fund "the purchase of three 70-inch television sets, an iMac computer, three laser jet printers, and an iPevo document camera," according to the release.
"These items will increase the interactivity of computer-based visual learning, allowing art classes to take better advantage of online video and audio clips and websites that focus on fine arts and design," representatives said in the release.
"Take a walk through Monet’s Garden in real-time; demonstrate knowledge of Cezanne’s theory of the Four Shapes of Nature by drawing those shapes on a life-size masterpiece; speak to another group of art students in the Sudan or attend an art opening in London," said Eldridge in the release.
“We are extremely thankful to the Forever Molly and Gregory Fund for their tremendous kindness and thoughtfulness,” said Superintendent of Schools Paul Kreutzer in the release. “Molly and Gregory will always be part of our District’s family and we know their classmates and friends are appreciative of this generous gift that is in their honor.”
