“A family taking their young children into the Carvel for ice cream had just gotten out of one of the cars when it happened,” a mother told CLIFFVIEW PILOT on Sunday, the morning after the incident.

“After hitting the car, she got out, inspected the damage, and then got back into her car in an attempt to leave, despite the presence of a group of teens and adults who clearly saw her cause the accident,” she said. “Instead of backing up and pulling away, she was so inebriated that she drove into the same car again.

The parked car rear-ended by the Lexus was forced into a second parked car as a result of the collision.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT requested information about the Saturday night incident Monday morning, then followed up on Tuesday. The information was released this morning.

“Arriving on scene, the officers found an unoccupied white Lexus with heavy front-end damage parked in the roadway near two damaged parked cars,” Sgt. Rich Schultz wrote. “The driver of the Lexus (Darlene Krawitz, 57 year old from Fair Lawn) was found standing on the nearby sidewalk.”

Schultz said it “was determined that Krawitz was under the influence and too impaired to be driving.”

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where she was charged with DWI, careless driving and filing to exhibit documents.

She was later released to the care of “a responsible party,” Schultz said, and was scheduled for a hearing tonight in Fair Lawn Municipal Court.
