POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Whether residents are looking to relax by a lake, take a dip in the pool or simply relax in nearly eight acres of wooded paradise, a newly listed Arts and Crafts home in Pound Ridge offers something for everyone.

"With nearly eight acres adjoining the protected lands of the 4,315-acre Pound Ridge Reservation, this home is in a beautiful location," said Muffin Dowdle, listing agent for Ginnel Real Estate. "It's the perfect family compound or peaceful retreat."

Although it's only 15 years old, 54 Old Stone Hill Road was built in the Arts and Crafts style, a design common in Great Britain and the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The architectural movement was started as a way to promote skilled craftsmanship and develop a return to nature, both of which many artists felt had become overlooked during the developments of the Industrial Revolution. As a result, many Arts and Craft-inspired homes are built with earthen materials such as wood, stone and brick, and contain multiple fireplaces, large chimneys, porches, exposed beams and feature an open floor plan.

"This home uses every square foot of space in a very efficient, creative way," said Dowdle. "The Arts and Crafts style gives the home a unique sense of character, and the property lets you enjoy the natural beauty of Westchester."

Built in 2002, the sprawling estate features two guest houses, a large patio and a scenic overlook of the neighboring reservation. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to illuminate the home, while the wood and stone fireplaces throughout create a cozy, natural ambiance.

"The property is not only massive, but also tranquil, so residents will feel relaxed every time they come home," said Dowdle. "With a pool, lake and new amenities inside the home, entertaining here is encouraged."
