"I would keep taxes low in Albany by creating a business environment," Murphy said. "New York State is ranked dead last in the United States of America."

Murphy, in a video interview with Daily Voice, said New York has lost close to 400,000 people in the last three years because they cannot afford to live in the state anymore.

"That is unacceptable," Murphy, a Yorktown councilman, said. "We need to increase the commercial tax base."

Murphy is opposing Democrat Justin Wagner. Greg Ball, the current senator, declined to run for re-election.

The 40th Senate District covers Pleasantville, Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, North Salem, Yorktown, Somers, Cortlandt, Mount Pleasant, Peekskill and parts of Putnam County.
