Spano, a 57-year-old Shrub Oak resident who used to live in Tarrytown, is running for Westchester County Executive, hoping to get the nomination of the Democratic Party. Spano, the son of former County Executive Andrew Spano, ran for the position against his father in 2009 on the Republican ticket but did not get enough petition signatures.

"I am disenchanted by the way the county is going under its current leadership," Spano, a mechanic, businessman, and artist, said. "I think the county should go in completely different direction."

County Legislator Ken Jenkins and Senator George Latimer have also announced they are running for the Democratic nomination. County Executive Rob Astorino is running for a third term.

Spano's first campaign ended because the people leading his campaign lied to him, Spano said. Spano said he was 500 signatures away from getting onto the ballot.

"But out of that process, I became inspired," Spano said.

Spano made waves when he challenged his father back in 2009, but he said they now have a good relationship and that his father supports him.

"We're on the same page," Spano said. "He gave me more attention than you'd expect any father to give."

Spano said he is looking forward to going around the city and meeting with residents and answering their questions. He said he hopes to meet with students at Westchester Community College and at SUNY Purchase.

"I intend to present my sophisticated intelligent platform to everyone," Spano said. " want to work with Gov. Andrew Cuomo in an amicable fashion and with people on both sides of the aisle. I want to work with President Donald Trump."

Spano said he would like to see the county make an investment in renewable energy, especially with the closure of Indian Point.

"I want everything solar," Spano said. "I want to bring manufacturing jobs back to Westchester. I want to help small businesses and fill the potholes."
