Buchwald announced the Assembly passage of a bill he wrote "that would limit the time in which state agencies can appeal court decisions that mandate documents be released under the Freedom of Information Law," according to a release.

“An honorable government is open to the people it serves – where citizens can freely access the information they seek to better understand how their tax dollars are being spent,” Assemblyman Buchwald said in the release. “This bill aims to make the FOIL process speedier so that government is more accountable to our families.”

Assemblyman Buchwald’s bill was part of a legislative package that celebrated Sunshine Week.

“It’s our obligation as representatives to guarantee that all New Yorkers have access to government decision-making processes so that they are active participants,” Buchwald said.

Buchwald represents District 93, which includes Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and White Plains.
