LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Vandals did approximately $300 worth of damage to a mail truck at the post office at Oakridge Commons on Saturday, Dec. 29, but no suspects have been apprehended, police said.
The Oakridge Commons postmaster in South Salem told investigators someone placed a stool on top of a mail truck, broke the driver’s side mirror and cracked the windshield. Police said it appeared someone got on the vehicle, a 1984 Grumman mail truck, and broke the mirror, then cracked the windshield while climbing it.
Police said they had patrolled the area the night before and hadn't noticed anything suspicious.
The truck was drivable and went out on its regular route the following day. The postmaster was advised that police would step up patrols in the area.
The following items were also reported by the Lewisboro police:
On Thursday, Dec. 27, police were called to a Spring Street residence in South Salem on a larceny report. The homeowner told police someone had stolen a Kindle, valued at $175, while it was en route to his residence via FedEx.
On Saturday, Dec. 29, police responded to a two-car accident on Route 123 at the entrance to the Oakridge Condominiums. One of the vehicles was towed. The second vehicle was off the road and on the condominium property, where the driver lives. He told police he would make arrangements to get the vehicle moved to a parking spot in the complex and repair a damaged light pole.
