Safewise.com released stats for 2015 and the village of Suffern came in at No. 10, while the town of Ramapo was No. 14. Stony Point lagged at No. 17.
Safewise.com said it calculated the numbers based on the likelihood of violent (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) occurring per 1,000 people.
According to safewise.com, Suffern’s numbers worked out to be 5.51 (property) and 0.83 (violent).
Ramapo’s were slightly lower in the violent crime area (0.65), but higher where property crimes were concerned (6.50).
Stony Point’s stats were: 0.78 (violent) and 6.99 (property).
Among places in Westchester with 8,000 residents or more, safewise.com ranked Hillary Clinton’s home base of New Castle second; North Castle sixth; Croton-on-Hudson 11th; Sleepy Hollow, 12th ; Harrison 18th; Eastchester, 20th; Mount Pleasant, 23rd.
East Fishkill in Dutchess County came in seventh.
Carmel and Kent in Putnam County came in eighth and 15th respectively.
Safewise said it used FBI crime statistics from 2013, the most recent available, and population data for its survey.
It eliminated places with fewer than 8,000 residents as well as any that failed, it said, to “submit a complete crime report to the FBI."
